Orientation Blog

Orientation was a blast! It was really fun showing the upcoming seventh graders around, and telling them what they need to know. The orientation practices really payed off. It benefited us. Everytime we made a mistake in the practices, we made sure we didn't do the same mistake again. We didn't have much problems as I thought we would. I learned from my mistakes, and corrected my errors. Eh, samething(x. We had about three afterschool practices. In the cafe it was really hot. We practiced our dances, speeches, and banner holding. But I'm pretty sure we already knew how to hold a banner. But what I didn't know was that we had to make the bottom touch the floor. At least we know now. Tuesday was the big day. The real thing. We had to wait a while for the students to arrive. Iroquois took a while. Ewabeach walked, Holomua took bus. Everything went smooth, except when Korey accidentally said "Vice president" instead of "Vice principal". And when Kevin, or was it Korey? said "trash treasurer". Little errors. I took a blue track class from Holomua on a tour. I made sure that I explained everything. But there was one time at a stop where I forgot to face them. But I was corrected. I brought them back to their seats afterwards. I was glad that that was done. Then we had our dances. I was showing oversized jeans. They made me wear the oversized jeans since I was the smallest and anyone in period 4 would have a pair of jeans that would be oversized on me. I sorta understood, but at the same time I didn't like it. When the orientation was over we had to wait for the schools to leave.

Round two. On Thursday, it was round two of orientation. That meant the second batch of students were coming. This time it was Kaimiloa and Pohakea. They walked to Ilima. So it didn't take too long for them to leave. And we didn't have to wait for any buses. Jahlyssa's taught me, Korey, and Roxi, a beat. It sounds cool when we do it all together. I took a group of Kaimiloa students in a tour. The boys were really curious. They asked me irrelavent questions like, "what grade are you in?", and "what's your Instagram?" I only answered the grade part. I made sure I got them back to their seats. I was the first group back. They had lots of questions about dress code. It took about 10 minutes to answer all of them. The thing was, I forgot my oversized jeans in A101! So I had to borrow Kevin's jeans since he was wearing board shorts for the dance. His pants were really big on me. At least it was a good example. Like how they said, "anyone's jeans would be oversized for Cheana". They were right. His pants were really big. It kept falling though. But I managed to keep going.

Round three. Thursday evening, we had the parent orientation. Mr. Ing said that the parent orientation was the best out of all. But I thought the first one was the best. That time, I didn't forget my oversized jeans, but they wanted me to wear the Kevin's ones again. I didn't want to. This time we didn't go on the tour. There was lots of backstage shenanigans. Real funny ones too. Atleast we didn't make a distraction... I hope we didnt.

The highlight of orientation was the first round. We went pretty well actually. Everthing went perfect in my point of view. The dance went well, the speaking went well, and most of all, the students cheered loud when they heard that most of the officers were from Holomua. Well Holomua cheered loud. I kinda knew that they were gonna cheer loud because Holomua is a really noisy school. We would always get our lunch recess taken away for being too noisy. So I sorta expected it. I'm glad that the former Holomua students got to where they are now. That was the highlight of orientation.

The lowlight of orientation would have to be when lei Ilima scheduled something last minute for the girls to take surveys, and when they had the band festival at ewa makai the time we had the nightime parent orientation. Orientation was already scheduled. That really slowed us down in some way. The lei Ilima people had girls take surveys while they were on the tour. Some parents must've had a busy schedule the night of the parent orientation. What if their kid was in band, and their other kid was an upcoming seventh grader who missed the first orientation?. Tough decision.
