Retreat 2014

This years retreat was during school. October 20 - 22. The retreat is a really fun leadership activity. It's an activity that was created not to long ago. This activity features bonding with everyone and planning out the school year. It's a three day, two night field trip. Periods one and three had downstairs rooms, and period five got upstairs. I really enjoyed this years field trip, but last years was the best. Some activities stayed the same which was stuff like the magic notes activity, interview, playing cards, and crabbing. My group had an easy time coming up with the talent routine. For chopped, my group made mochi. I liked period threes chopped. It was actually pretty good. For talent, period one won 1st, period five won 2nd, and period three won 3rd. For chopped, period five won 1st, period three won 2nd, and period one won 3rd. I was pretty satisfied with the results. My period one 1st or 2nd. Not 1st & 3rd, or 2nd & 3rd, in that order. While crabbing we caught pretty big crabs. We dug them up from their homes. We shared one flashlight at night. It was pretty bad(x. On the second night, we had s'mores and deep fried Oreos. Me, jah, tiana, Deriecka, Jayde, naya, & Petriese all stayed up till like four playing kemps, bs, and spoons. It was pretty fun. For the activities, we had core value bracelets, memory collages, and interviews. I had lots of fun.

Some highlights were that we got to bond, get things done, and this retreat was smooth. More highlights were that I got to play cards with people that I've drifted from, so we got to become just a little closer. Another highlight is that my group won first for chopped and 2nd for talent. Last highlight would be that the chopped and talent show was really good. All the talents were really funny and all the chopped were good. Lowlights were that people stayed in the room the whole time doing stuff they weren't supposed to be doing. Another lowlight was the that during one session, people went outside when the session wasn't over yet. Last lowlight would be that the gopro died on the first day. The stupid wifi was on the whole time, which made it die and I had no charger. Out of all things, I forgot to bring the charger for the gopro. Really cheana(x

I learned that my group is really crazy, and most of us don't have rhythm. There wasn't much to learn about my group. What I learned about the other groups were that they hangout with eachother and don't like to include me, tiana, emma and Taylor. Sorry, but that's what I've been noticing. It actually makes me sad because last year, we all were getting along so well. I what I learned about the chaperones which were laila shayna and Jolene, wasn't much. Laila, hung out with me a lot at the retreat. She helped me re create my memory collage. Shayna, ehh didn't learn much cause I already know what I do. Oh Jolene likes to pick on me(x what I learned about Mr. Ing was that he snores. LOL THATS IT(x that's all I know. I learned everything else before.

This was the retreat of 2014!!!!!

first week back to school¿

Second quarter has just begun. First quarter is over, and so is fall break. Today is Monday, the beginning of a new school week and quarter. The periods today were 6, 2, 4, 1. In period six, we finished our packets that we had to finish during break. Since most of us didn't finish it during break, we had to do it in class. In period two, we had a sub. He didn't even tell us his name LOL. All he did was tell us what to do and didn't tell us how to do it. It was a pretty bad sub. He also didn't know if there was a seating chart or something so he didn't know If someone wasn't sitting in their seat or not. In period four, we turned in our narratives and we went over dystopia. I fell asleep. I don't like English. It's so boring omg. In period one, we did something about seeing what jobs do. We had to brainstorm about what a person does at a job and how they do all these types of skills. I didnt really get it but I did it anyways. We had to tell Mr. Ing what we were going to do for our chop competiton and out talent competing for the retreat. I told him that for chop, we were gonna make _________________ and for the talent we were going to do a Beyoncé mash up. (10/13/14 7:36 pm). Today is Tuesday ayyy. I didn't know it was Tuesday today(x. Today's periods were 1, 3, 5, 6. In period one, we worked on pages in our booklet. In period three, we had a new tent groups. I'm still in the same tent group with Kyle, it's just two there people that got switched out. I'm the only girl in my group!. It sucks omggg. In period five, we tried think if of what we were going to do for our talent. We changed it because we thought that a Beyoncé mash up wasn't good enough. In period six, I didn't know what we were doing because I was watching my show the whole time and I didn't know what was going on. I finished my other blog a while ago, we had to do a Zumba blog today. (10/14/14 10:28 pm). Dang I gave up so easily LOL. But on Wednesday the periods were 2, 4, 6. In period two we did bubble maps on types of rocks. We had to Hilighlight and stuff too!. In period four, we did stuff on compare & contrast pretty boring again. If I had a dollar for everytime I said ELA is boring or I hate it, I would be rich. In period six, we watched a video on George Washington. Boring too. On Thursday, the periods were 3, 5, 1. In period three, we had a guest speaker come and talk to us about stuff. He's an author and he has his own quote, "Accept, Addapt, Achieve". He took the whole class period just to talk to us. In period five, we tried working on our talent competition but we got distracted. Before that, we went to the chorus room to go "tape" the fallen cards back up. It felt good in there, it was all cold, while outside was super hot. In period one, we worked on stuff in our booklets. And Mrs. Gouveia showed us how our upcoming booklet will look like. It looks boring. On Friday, the periods were 4, 6, 2, 3. In period 4 we had a sub named Mr. Lee. Not the principal. I don't like the sub. He's annoying. We did popcorn reading, then after everyone said a sentance he yelled popcorn. Like whaaat are you doing. In period 6, we took notes and stuff. We watched videos. It was too boring so no one was paying attention. In period two, we took notes from in the book about rock types and rock cycles. There's lots of questions that we have to answer. In period three, we had a sub. His name is Mr. Lee. It was the same sub as the one I had at the beginning of the day, great. We watched a long video about meth. Pretty interesting. But I don't know why we watched it. It had nothing to do with what we were focusing on. We were focusing on Acostas levels of questioning. Not crack cocaine LOLOL. Pretty much my week.

Highlight of the week was afterschool on Friday. Tiana, emma, and I had an adventure, well tiana and I did. Not so much emma. So first, we go to the library to borrow books. Then we go back to A101 so we could leave. But the door was locked! We thought Mr. Ing left, but he didn't we seen his car in the parking lot. Then cashius took my phone and ran away with it. But he then gave it back. I fell on my knees and my pants were green from the grass. Then Cashius took tianas lanyard and broke it. He tried running away with it but tiana went up to Mrs. shinjos office and reported cashius, he ran away, and she called security to go chase him. They went after him with two golf carts. It was pretty funny. Then when we got picked up, tiana and I, my parents took us to sushi bay. Then we went to Costco. We got lots of samples. And we went running around. It felt like the very last day of school for some reason. I had no lowlights.

Lesson learned was to always follow directions. If you show someone that you can't follow directions, it will hurt you in some way. They could not let you do something just because you can't follow directions. It's very important to follow directions. Following directions is almost always a good thing. Directions are supposed to help you step by step on how to complete your goal. So always follow directions.

We got our report cards on Friday hollaa 3.8 principals list.

Not the finished product, but how my leadership ticket for the retreat looked liked before the shells.

Zumba Bloggg

Last quarter, we have been assigned a Zumba routine to do. At first, Mr. Ing made us choose our songs on Facebook. We had three choices, Ice Ice Baby, Timber, or Get me Bodied. Period three chose ice ice baby, period one chose timber, and my period got left with get me bodied. I didn't know what song we had at first. But I played it and listened to it and it turns out I was very familiar with that song! The thing was, we had to do Zumba to it. I thought to myself "how the heck would we be able to do Zumba to that song?!". There was a speaker for each group. Period one had Julia, period three had Taylor, and my period had Deriecka. They had to say out the steps before we did the moves. My group didn't really come up with moves the first two classes that we had the chance to. After that, we came up with moves, then we had to change it because it transitioned too fast, and it wasn't really Zumba. So we had to make it as excersizing as possible LOL. Zumba isn't dancing, it's excersizing so it wasn't that hard to come up with moves for excersizing. The moves we included were clapping to the beat, high knees, shuffle clap, lazy monkey, swing lock, lipgloss, repeat, cross toe touches, and touch the sky touch your feet. It was pretty simple. We practiced and practiced until we got it. Deriecka practiced saying her moves. We had to teach our dance to the dance team so that they would participate. Period one performed first, they got 17 dancers. Then period three performed, they got only 9 dancers. There's a reason as to why they only got nine while period one got 17. When I seen period threes results, I was kinda worried for my period. I was wondering "why did they get so little bit dancers?". My group went last and we got 20/21 dancers!. I'm not sure if it was 20 or 21, but hey at least we got a lot!. I was pretty surprised by how much we got. This activity was pretty fun.

Some highlights were that my group got the most dancers. We worked really well together. We got it done on time, whic left us time to keep practicing over and over again. Lowlight was that one period cheated. They messed up period threes dancer count. The thing was that someone in period one told the dancers from the dance team not to dance with periods 3 & 5. When I found out, I was pretty pissed, like forreals. How immature & selfish. I felt bad for period three, my period as well. That was before we performed our dance. I tried doing everything possible just so that my periods dancer count wasn't messed up. I kinda wish that period three got another change to perform and get another count. That was really unfair. That period did it so that they would get the most and they would get the A.
Lesson learned was that cheaters will never prosper. You should never cheat. If people find out about your little cheating, they will begin to be angry with you and dislike you. That's an easy way for you to lose friends. Sometimes, people cheat and it affects innocent people. Always think before you do, you never know if it could backfire. And when you get caught cheating, don't lie, tell the truth and admit to what you've done.

GLO 1; I met glo 1 self directed learner by making sure that I got the moves and I understood the choreography. I also made sure to pay attention and practice with my group when I got the chance to.
GLO 2; I met glo 2 community contributer by helping out my group when they needed it. I also helped by constantly reminding my group to practice.
GLO 3; complex thinker, I was a complex thinker by thinking of new and original moves for us to do. I also helped think of moves for the whole song, after all, it was pretty hard to come up with moves
GLO 4; quality producer, I produced quality by making sure that our dance was clean and there were no errors. Made sure that we could understand the moves easily.
GLO 5; effective communicator, I constantly texted my group members about what to do and to practice the routine. I also communicated with my group to come up with moves for the routine.
GLO 6; I used technology effectively by using my phone to text and remind my group, the laptop to print out our dance steps and to play our song, and we also videoed ourselves dancing to see what errors we made and so we could correct ourselves.

I think the grades should be handed out the way Mr. Ing first said it would. It made us do anything to make sure we got the best grade so we all tried hard. But if it were to be handed out like that, I honestly think that the good grades should be handed out to the people who didn't get the fair grade & the people who actually tried hard. So period 3 & 5 should both get A's, and period one should atleast get a B. It was unfair for period three, so they should be able to get an A too. Period five tried their best to get as much people to dance, so we should get the A too. What period one did was wrong, so I don't think they deserve a higher grade that period three. But if only one group can get an A, B, or C, it should be period 5 getting the A, period 3 getting the B, and period One getting the C, sorry but what they did was wrong.

Steps to our dance;
First we're gonna be clapping to the beat. Next we will be doing high knees for two missions, then we will do shuffle claps, starting by stepping to the right. Next is the lazy monkey, we will be doing this for 16 counts. Then we will be doing swing lock, swing to the right first, for 16 counts. Next is the lipgloss dance, we will start with the right side. Next is high knees again. Then shuffle clap, then lazy monkey, then swing lock, and the lipgloss dance for two times though. We will now be doing stretches. First stretch is cross toe touches. Touching your right foot first. Then we will be doing touch the sky and touch your toes. Starting with touching your toes first. Then we will do shuffle clap again, then lazy monkey, then swing lock and strike a pose for the ending!

Our dance was pretty simple, and easy to follow along to.

One down, three to go

Wow, I can't believe the quarter is over. I've learned so much more this year, than last year. I cant believe how much I've improved & grown. Ive grown academically and height wise(x. This quarter was a breeze. We did barely any work, compared to last year. This quarter, we had lots of time to play cards and focus on AR. My periods now are 1. Algebra, 2. Science, 3. Avid (oops), 4. English, 5. Leadership, & 6. Social studies. Jayde and I are group leaders of period five. It's been a whole quarter of being president, a group leader, and an eighth grade student. Things have changed. I've learned lots of new things. I still can't get over the fact that I'm in algebra, I'm a group leader, and I'm president. Wow, 0 to a 100 real quick(x. Teachers came & gone. My English teacher is now Ms. Archer. And my social studies teacher is now Mr. Chong. I miss Mrs. Tolentino & Mr. Mitsuda:(((. Oh well, life must go on. My end of the quarter GPA turns out to be a 3.8, principals list. Life was way better with the eighth graders to look up to. Now we have to be a good role model and not mess up anything because roles have been switched. We are the eighth graders that seventh graders look up to. We have to be great leaders & guide them to do well. We had three different sets of jobs. One is ID's again. Next is Morning and Recess Music, next is Afterschoolsales, Lunch Music, and CCTV. My groups starting job was TV.

School life has changed for the better. My first quarter grade has gotten a lot better than last years first quarter grade. I got a lot more work done than I thought I would. This quarter was a breeze. Hopefully I can keep it up. I've improved in most of my subjects. I successfully got my group through the quarter safely and didn't let them slip through my arms & fail. I stayed strong throuout the quarter.

I've bonded with a lot more people. But some people are just hard to get along with. I've became really close with my group. Deriecka, a weird girl that does dumb things. I already knew tiana and emma, but tiana, really smart but dumb sometimes. And Emma, fangirls over boys & is super smart. My daughters are Tiana, Emma, and Taylor. Tiana & Emma are in my period. Tiana is secretary and Emma is President. While taylor, is in period three, and doesn't have a position. I've gotten closer with Jayde as well. I'm gonna have to collaborate with her throughout the year so it's obviously best to get along with eachother. The other leadership girls, I'm not so sure of. I'm not really comfortable around them. It feels like I'm unwanted sometimes. They always do things and I'm not apart of it Oh well.

Some highlights of the quarter was getting to know the other leadership girls better. Hopefully the upcoming retreat with make us better friends with everyone. Lowlights was some people don't know how to control themselves. They do things that make things go too far. Whispering to eachother & backstabbing, one of my biggest lowlights.

Lesson learned of the quarter was to never ever, wait till the last minute and procrastinate. Now we will be having weekly AR starting 2nd quArter because lots of people like to procrastinate. So Mr. Ing decided that we will be starting AR weekly goals in the second quarter. We usually start it in the third quarter, but with the issues we have been having, I think that it will actually help us.

Some of the swear words still haven't changed, Avid, one direction, and more. Some people wonder why it's considered as a swear word. I know why, but I don't know how to explain it in words.

This was by far, one of the fastest quarters ever.

Meet my period
Emma, Jayde, tiana, Cheana, & Deriecka
